Title of the Innovation : Bellows

Brief About Innovation :

Bellows

What are bellows?

In the area of machinery, the term "bellows" generally refers to corrugated pipes or joints with functionality such as expansion/contraction or flexibility. Eagle Industry pursues the application of bellows technology to mechanical seals and control valves.

Types of Bellows

We own molded bellows and welded bellows technologies classified according to bellows fabrication method. These bellows are deployed in various products.

Molded Bellows

Features

This type of bellows is made from a sheet of metal that is deep-drawn into a tube, followed by the application of hydraulic pressure from within, inside a mold. Molded bellows are suitable for mass production and are therefore used as automotive parts.

Welded Bellows

Features

To fabricate a welded bellows, thin disks are welded together at the inside and outside edges. This method ensures that the inside and outside diameters are uniform, with reduced variance of effective area and spring constant. We use different welding methods, such as TIG, laser and electron beam, according to the purpose, to provide high quality.

Bellows in Products

Metal bellows accumulator

Metal bellows accumulator

Using a metal bellows, we have developed zero gas permeability accumulators, which are employed in electronically controlled brake systems.

Control valve

Control valve

Our bellows technology is applied to valves used in car air-conditioners.

LN2 circulator
<Liquid nitrogen circulator for superconductors>

  • Using a metal bellows welding technology, Eagle Industry is working on the development of a liquid nitrogen circulator for high-temperature superconductors.
  • The LN2 circulator currently under development at Eagle Industry is compact, incorporating a double metal bellows structure originally designed by Eagle Industry.
  • The pump section immersed in LN2 has no sliding section, is long-life, and supplies liquid nitrogen highly efficiently and stably from a very low to a high flow rate due to reciprocating-motion control.
  • Allowing for the use of a long shaft, the LN2 circulator, as another feature, offers a high degree of design freedom with regard to the LN2 tank neck length (thickness of heat insulating layer) and tank depth.
  • When selected as a device for circulating LN2 to cool a superconducting marine motor, the LN2 circulator fulfilled the NK standards after continuous LN2 circulation during the motor test run.
